The red YAO (chinese term) call themselves MIEN, the dark blue YAO call themselves MOON, 2.6 millions people spread over southern chinese provinces of Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan and migrated to Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
A ceremony, took place in the afternoon in Soupxai village, Ou tai district, Phongsaly province, only men gathered in a house, requiring the services of a shaman for healing and bringing luck. First some old ancient chinese texts are copied on new paper, then long recitations, drumming and ritual dance, involving old men teaching the young men, using bells, cymbals, a gong, drum and a long knife.
