UYGHUR IN ILI XINJIANG CHINA

Ili ( Yining in english and Gulja in turkish ) is a so called Kazakh autonomous region, in Ili prefecture live 650000 Uyghur people, ranking third largest ethnic group after the Hans and the Kazaks, but are the predominant ethnic group of Xinjiang with more than 10 millions people .
We met Kurban in an old part (mostly Uyghur) of ILI town, he has a small shop/workshop where he makes various string instruments.

KURBAN plays RAWAB (a 4 stringed plucked instrument) SATAR (a 1 stringed bowed instruments with 12 side strings) and TANBUR (a 5 stringed plucked instrument)
KALI plays TCHANG (the Uyghur equivalent of santoor)
ADENGR plays DAP (small tambourine)
PAHAT (KURBAN s son) plays DOTAR (a 2 stringed plucked instrument)
ILI ZATI plays RUSHTAR (a 4 stringed bowed instrument)
