SHUI DAI IN YUNNAN CHINA

The DAI or TAI language belong to the Zhuang-Dai branch of the sino tibetan family, numbering over one million people in Xishuan Banna and other areas of southern Yunnan, The DAI or TAI are many millions more in countries like Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, they follow Theravada Buddhism .
Coming to areas of southern Yunnan where DAI people live, at the time of Dai new year ( mid of April like in Laos, Thailand or Cambodia) is to expose yourself to crowds of people throwing water at each other, announcing the first rain of the coming mansoon.

AI FENG 34 is a well known singer in her Dai community, for being able to turn any story into poetry, improvised words adapted to an old DAI singing pattern : the WA DAI , 2 singing patterns called WA DAI and SHUI DAI ( in chinese language ) exist in this Dai area.

1 long improvised song on our visit , kind of sad song where the singer express envy for us, thinking that her life is less interesting than our.

2 LOVE SONG improvised song on looking through the crowds of happy people who are celebrating the Dai new year and hoping to see the man she loves but not seeing him, makes her even more sad.
3 LOVE SONG improvised song intended to the man she loves but instead heard by us, recording her.
