MOSUO & PUMI IN YUNNAN / SICHUAN CHINA

The MOSUO (40 000 people) and the PUMI (30 000 people) are under the influence of their strong neighbour the Tibetans who once were controlling this area of northern Yunnan and southern Sichuan and established Mahayana Buddhist monasteries where local Mosuo (2/3) and Pumi (1/3) families contribute by donating a son to become a monk (lama) of the Gelugpa cult of the Dalaï Lama.

Tracks 1, 2, 3 DA SHAN JIE ( mountain worship festival) taking place outdoor end of september, north of lake LUGU, is a Buddhist / agricultural ritual gathering peasants and lamas from all over, from different Buddhist cults and not only the main cult of the Gelugpa.
