LISU IN YUNNAN CHINA

The Lisu are more than 700 000 in western part of Yunnan, and
more than 400 000 in northern Myanmar and over 50 000 in
northern Thailand. All Lisu subgroups are classified as tibeto
burmese ethnic group. 2 subgroups are represented here :
a LISU SHAE chiben player from Fugong up north along the Nujiang
or Salveen river (where Lisus are concentrated) and further south in
Dali prefecture some vocals and instrumental tunes of a different Lisu
subgroup around Yangbing.

track 1 to 19 AH CHI 60 years old man living in CHI HENG DI village
outside of Fugong, Nujiang, plays his selfmade CHIBEU a 4 stringed
lute and sings on a few tracks.
20 3 small bamboo mouth harps hold parallel in front of the mouth,
each one has a name and a different pitch (from up to down :
seitei, mago, deidei
21 bamboo mouth harp called mago
22 a very small bamboo flute of 4 holes called dima

23 to 30 recorded in october 2011 in Yangbing, Dali
23,24,25 responsive singing between 2 women
26 dize (flute), hulushen (mouthorgan mounted on a gurd) and 3 women
singing
27 flute and hulushen performed by 2 men
28 flute and a woman singing
29 flute
30 flute and hulushen performed by 2 men
