LALUO (YI) IN YUNNAN CHINA 2

The LALUO are a sub-group of the YI, numbering 600 000, in the counties of southern DALI prefecture, northern LINCANG, and eastern BAOSHAN.

Tracks 1 to 4 recorded in Cai village by Erhai lake (Dali), in the morning a LALUO woman is getting married to a local BAI man, she s escorted by 2 Laluo musicians to pick them up and bring them the Laluo bride s village for the wedding ceremony. Performed by 2 men (LU ZHAO JIN and another man fromYONG ZHENG village near NANJIAN) playing each a SUONA or a long horn

Tracks 5 to 14 recorded in WUQI village, a 300 years LALUO settlement of farmers, south west of CANG SHAN moutain

6, 7 JIN JIU responding drinking song between 2 men (GUO WEN BIAO and GUO ZHONG older man)
8 DRINKING & DANCING song performed on JULU (flute) by GUO ZHONG
9 CELEBRATION TUNE, BIU small mouthorgan of 5 tubes inserted in a gourd performed by li KUAN
10 FUNERAL TUNE BIU small mouthorgan of 5 tubes inserted in a gourd performed by li KUAN
11 RESPONDED LOVE song between 2 men (GUO WEN BIAO and GUO ZHONG and 2 women (MEI HUA and PENG HUA)
12 COURTING song between a man (GUO WEN BIAO) and a woman (MEI HUA)
13, 14 LIF E song by LI KUAN and his wife LI FENG XIN

Tracks 15 to 17 recorded in WUQI temple in a forest outside of WUQI village, honoring a local deity once a year in March, the event gather a crowd of 500 people.
