about

KIRGHIZ KOMUZ XINJIANG CHINA

The vast majority of KIRGHIZ people live in Kirghizstan (5 millions) and only 180 000 live in the Chinese province of Xinjiang. The essential instrument is a small 3 stringed lute called KOMUZ.

ADILI BEK is a 53 years old Kirghiz man, composer and professional musician for the local Chinese Culture Palace where he teaches Komuz, living in Wuqia, at the boarder with Kirghizstan. Like many KIRGHIZ KOMUZ players, an acrobatic style is an important part of the entertainment, the musician moves the instrument in unconventional ways
while playing.
