about

KHMER WEDDING QUARTET IN CAMBODIA
The 4 musicians recorded here, come from the very south of Cambodia, a part belonging now to Vietnam, they are among the first khmer migrants to Ratanakiri who moved to this essentially ethnic minorities zone in the 60s. They have entertained wedding ceremonies since, with this traditional khmer music quartet, including from left to right on the front picture : the krapeu (meaning crocodile for the shape of the instrument) is a 3 stringed plucked instrument also called TAKEY, the drum is called a SKO arek kuoy, the 3rd instrument is a TRO, a bowed 2 stringed instrument and the 4th is a khmer dulcimer called KHIM, it is played by hitting the strings with 2 bamboo mallets.
