JINGPAW (ZAIWA) SHAMAN IN YUNNAN CHINA

Out of 500 000 JINGPAWs , 140 000 live in China ( mostly in Dehong county) at the boarder with Myanmar and the majority live in Myanmar where they are called KACHIN. In both countries the majority has become christian a 100 years ago. In Dehong, so called DAI JINGPAW autonomous region, the Dais occupy the plains and the Jingpaws live higher up. Divided in subgroups with different languages, the local shaman (DOMSA in Zaiwa language) belong to the ZAIWA subgroup ( 100 00 people ). DUO XI LE KANG is 72 years old last remaining shaman in Banyang, he is in charge of reciting the appropriate words according to different occasions

1 for building a new house
2 for relationship between young man and woman
3 young couple moving into a new house
4 to eat the new rice, under the protection of a sacred bird called BU WEN, the bird sings for the people resting under a big tree, people dance and the bird helps bring good luck for harvest.
