1 Tale told by a woman from the Hamong sub-group, Ya Meung in Tra-oum Village, Phouvong District, Attapeu Province, March 2006.

2 “meut mouan groung young”. Sung by a man from the Hamong sub-group, Ya Dung (Khamphiang), the type of epic story (meut mouan in Brao and lam cheuang in Lao) is sung laying down and can continue on for up to three nights in succession without any repetition. This particular part is about Ma Yang, the child of Nang Blawk Gre Jroung, who has been sick for a long time (nine months). Tra-oum Village, Phouvong District, Attapeu Province, March 2006.
